Once Upon a Time in Accountant Land
“I wish to apply for a position with your firm, please” she stated calmly.
Jeff had been in the middle of applying the finishing touches to a complex report for his biggest client, when his EA stuck her head in his office.
“Yeah, what’s up, Erica?” he asked.
“ATO auditor just walked in wanting to see you. Her name’s Gillian. She’s got big tits” she replied.
“Yes, thank you, Erica” frowned Jeff.
There were times when Jeff could throttle Erica. She certainly knew how to push his buttons. But they’d been working together for five years now and she was the best EA he’d ever had. Didn’t waste the day away on social media or getting involved in office politics. And at least she gave the appearance of being professional in front of staff and clients, even if she wasn’t.
“Which client?” Jeff asked.
“Didn’t say” Erica grinned, “But I’ve put her in Meeting Room One.”
“Shit” thought Jeff, his mind racing and thinking which client it could be about.
But no answers were forthcoming and he felt himself getting frustrated trying to figure-out what could be wrong.
Thoroughly annoyed now by the interruption, he sighed and strode down to the meeting room to meet this Tax Office auditor.
A couple of knocks and he entered the room.
The woman standing at the opposite end of the table didn’t seem to look like an auditor.
She didn’t look stressed or out to prove herself.
She looked calm and assured.
Dressed stylishly too. And Louboutin shoes as well.
Yeah … just your typical ATO auditor.
And before he had uttered a word, that’s when she had calmly stated her intention.
“Excuse me” said Jeff, “My understanding was that you’re an auditor with the Australian Taxation Office. Which client were you here to talk about?”
“Yes, I am an auditor with the Australian Taxation Office” she replied, “And I showed my ID at reception. But I never said I was here to talk about a client. I simply said I wanted to see you. Perhaps your secretary gave you the wrong impression. She seemed rather focussed on my chest.”

“She’s not my secretary, Miss … umm … Gillian. She’s my Executive Assistant. And I can assure you she’s one of the most professional people I know.”
And before she could reply, Jeff continued.
“I don’t believe I’m currently advertising for any new staff members so why would you think I’d be inclined to offer any positions.”
“Well, it’s very simple” Gillian responded, in her maddeningly calm voice, “It’s like this … “
Hang on … shouldn’t I be talking about tax and accountant-like stuff?
In case you’re wondering why on Earth I’m talking about the above instead of Capital Gains Tax or GST, the answer lies within the deep confines of my new book which I’ll be releasing early this year.
But here’s a heads-up.
This book is not about tax.
It’s focussed on something far more important.
Your business and how to get ahead.
And it’s a book just for you .. the private business owner.
It will include a prelude of what’s coming to the business environment in the near future, how to combat this and raise yourself above the herd.
All based on some very interesting discussions held with some very successful private business owners.
