For The Last Time … I’m Not A Financial Planner

One of the side-effects of being an accountant is that everyone thinks you’re an expert on investment matters.

So they tend to come to you asking what shares or property they should invest in.

Or they’ve already seen a financial planner but want a second opinion on what they’ve been told.

I’m sure it’s something many accountants have experienced.

So why don’t I tell them what to invest in?

Putting aside the fact that I’m not a licensed investment advisor, it’s something I’m not an expert in.

There are plenty of people far more qualified to give advice on shares and property.

I simply focus on what I’m good at.

Which is helping you grow your business.

You know … it’s a funny thing

People often talk about different investment classes, mainly shares and property in Australia.

But few people talk about business as an investment class.

But really, perhaps they should.

I mean, it shows all the hallmarks of an investment.

An income return being generated from a capital asset.

And if you get it right, then that asset can grow in value and provide even more income.

Certainly more than shares and property … if you get it right.

Yes, there’s higher risk for higher return.

But you also arguably have more control with this investment class.

And once you’ve made a greater return from your business, then you can go to a financial planner and talk about what to do with it.
